01The challenge
Savanna’s data centre hardware was out of support, and the cost of renewing it had become a board-level concern. Peak traffic on salary days regularly pushed the mobile-money platform to its limit.
Regulation required subscriber data to stay in-country, ruling out a simple move to a public cloud region. Engineering teams waited up to three weeks for a new environment.
02Our approach
We classified all 212 workloads by data sensitivity, latency and cost profile. Customer data stayed in a rebuilt in-country private cloud; analytics, development and customer-facing web moved to public cloud.
Migration ran in nine waves over ten months, each rehearsed in a full copy of production with a timed rollback. We trained Savanna’s infrastructure team alongside every wave.
03What we built
An in-country private cloud on Kubernetes and a public-cloud landing zone, connected and managed as one platform with shared identity, policy and observability.
A self-service portal that lets engineering teams create compliant environments in under an hour.
- In-country private cloud and public cloud landing zone
- Infrastructure as code for every environment
- Unified monitoring with service-level objectives
- Self-service environment portal
- Cost dashboards with per-team accountability
04The results
What changed.
- Lower annual infrastructure running cost
- 38%
- Mobile-money availability over 12 months
- 99.98%
- To create a new environment, down from 3 weeks
